Molecular Biology Program Interest Groups:
All faculty members of the Molecular Biology Program belong to one or more interest groups.
Interest groups (leaders):
Biochemistry / Structural Biology (Chris Hill)
Cancer / Cell Biology (Don Ayer)
Developmental Biology (Susan Mango)
Gene Expression (Brad Cairns)
Genetics (Lynn Jorde)
Microbiology / Immunology (Janis Weis)
Neurobiology (Chi-Bin Chien)
Each interest group is featured in a link from the Program web page.
Faculty are periodically requested to indicate their preference for a
specific interest group(s). Interest Group Form (PDF
format)
Each interest group is required to provide a one half-semester didactic
course that is open to first year students and offered in the elective
slot of the second half of spring semester. In addition each interest
group is required to provide one first-year journal club each year. These
courses are the responsibility of the primary members in the interest
group. The interest group is responsible for all aspects of the course:
determination of course content, designation of lecturers, testing, and
quality control. Journal clubs maintain MB class numbers, whereas course
numbers for elective courses are the responsibility of the interest group.
The curriculum committee of the MB Program oversees overall issues of
quality.
The chair of the curriculum committee may request that specific interest
groups provide elective courses and journal clubs as appropriate.
Any group of faculty in the Program can petition the steering committee
to be recognized as an interest group.
