The Program in Biological Chemistry is a graduate program consisting of faculty from the Departments of Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Oncological Sciences, and Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry.

The Program brings together over 40 faculty members.  The Program faculty are organized into Research Interest Groups in the general areas of Biochemistry, Chemical Biology/Medicinal Chemistry, and Structural Biology/Biophysics.  Each faculty member participates in 2 Research Interest Groups.

There are many advantages for graduate students entering the Program in Biological Chemistry. There is no teaching requirement in the first year of the Program. Students complete four laboratory rotations in the first year among the Program faculty, allowing the student to make a well-informed decision about their selection of a thesis advisor and Ph.D. research project.

On April 27, 2009, two Biological Chemistry Program faculty members, Drs. Baldomero "Toto" Olivera and Dale Poulter, were elected to the National Academy of Sciences. To read the entire story please click here.
